FIRST ANNUAL BALL.
OTAKI-ITE IN EVIDENCE. Great is the force of example, for it was doubtless the excellent example given by other firms of holding enjoyable stall dances that induced the staff of tho Shell Company of New Zealand. Ltd., to essay a flight into the social world. And a splendid start they made last week at the /Winter Garden, where their inaugural ball was held, and proved so successful tliaWhcrc ean be no doubt that similar gwie.rtngs will be held each year. It was pleasing to notice amongst the guests many who hail come long distances to attend the ball. The members of the committee, Misses K. M. Gillies. D. A. Keys, G. M. Suckling, Messrs E. Trist, L. R. Stringer, and G. AY. Skelton (honorary secretary), were most punctilious in attending to their duties, and 1,0 them sincere congratulations are due. During the evening a bewildering number and variety of novelties — streamers, bonbons, fantastic liars, feather monkeys, and squeakers—were distributed amongst the dancers. Music was supplied by the Bailey - Marston Orchestra, and exhibition dances were given by Mr. Leo Bowden and Miss. -Jenkinson.
The guests of honour were Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain. —Press.
