MONTHLY MEETING. ! „ I The ordinary monthly meeting of tho above was held on Wednesday. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. P. Brandon). Crs. C. Kilsby. U. Taylor, H. Cockrell, A. W. Broadway. K. Carkeek, and J. K. Bills. Correspondence. Correspondence was read and dealt ' with as follows: I'tom G. L. From Hutt County Council, desiring to sell pipes left over from the Paekakariki water works. —Keceived. From 15. .1. Upon receipt of advice that the transfer of the strip of land had been registered and upon receipt of the written consent of the owner of the land being subdivided, agreeing to the building line being set back as mentioned, the requisite Order-in'-Council could be prepared. Miscellaneous. Cr. Kilsby -aid it had bee,; decided to increase the rate.. fo 3gd, and this j he thought was "bumping it up" too j Cr. After consideration he thought the ri.se in rates far too big, and suggesting reducing if possible. Other Councillor:-; agreed. Cr. Kil.-by pointed out that if the rate- w t _-r<: increased it would hit some ratepayers very bard, and on bis motion it. was agreed to leave the antecedent liability as it was and to cut out the hospital and lighting rate. Relative to the Antecedent Liability I Cr. Bills moved that arrangements, be made with the Bank of New Zealand for necessary money, with power to redeem £IOOO or upwards at six months' notice.—Agreed to. Complaint* were made against the inactivities of the ranger, and it was decided to issue a final warning, A suggestion to have a lamp on Domain road was not entertained.' Clerk's Eeport. The Clerk reported:— ' • f have very little to report since the recent special meeting of Council. Tenders have been called for supply of 1200 yard* of metal, closing in time for consideration at the ordinary meeting. The Inspector of Explosives inspected the Boroagh recently, and as a result several licenses will be issued under that Act, and for this office. A meeting of the library committee has not been called (as directed at last meeting) for the reason that I wish to discuss with Council, a combined library, fre. stau&i, hall as.d cmaicipal, offices*
