A Y.M.C.A. cricket club bus been formed at Levin, with Mr J. E. Dean as president, and Mr H. E. Keys secretary -and treasurer. Rev. Mr Harris has. offered to act as coach for the club. The Y.M.C.A. hopes to form clubs in Ohau, Manakau and Koputaroa.

While attempting to ford the Ohau stream, about half a mile below the traflic bridge, on Friday evening. Messrs J. Whitaker, J. Jones and Lonunon came to grief through their dray being capsized, the river being in flood. Mr Whitaker became entangled in the harness, and had a narrow escape from drowning, being in the water for about three-quarters of an hour. While playing with a nail barrel containing water, a little boy named Leslie Cuthbert Lovel, aged two years and nine months, of Kapuni,' near Hawera, overbalanced. The mother, who was busy in the wnshhouse, a few minutesS later found the child nearly dead. A doctor was called and efforts were made to restore animation, but unsuccessfully.

The Rahui Go-op. Dairy Co. (Otaki) has just paid out the sum of £I4OO for its September milk supply, this representing Is 3d per pound of butter-fat advance on milk supplied, and Is 7d per lb butter-fat for cream. The supply last month very largely exceeded that of the corresponding month of 1&18, and there is every prospect of the company having a record season. It is hoped to have the new boiler and engine ready for working next week.

The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council takes place at Wellington to-morrow morning.

All members of the Otaki Literary and Debating Club aro advised to attend to-night's meeting, which i* practically the last of the session, with the exception of the annual social gatherwig. To-night the journal will be read. This is always an interesting and profitable evening, and a large attendance is hoped for.

A meeting of tlic Educational Institute was held at Otaki on Saturday, when business in connection -with the coming conference, to be held early in December, was discussed. Remits were passed, and will be duly considered at the conference. Messrs Truclight and Co.'s horse, attached to a vehicle, bolted along the limin thoroughfare Of Otaki this morning, but was stopped in fine style by Mr Bert Pcnuey. who handled the runaway in as capable a way as he would a Hun prisoner. Xo damage resulted, and the glad smile on the owner's face was ample reward to the rescuer. At the Horowhenua County meeting on Saturday a letter was read from the Shannon Borough Council, stating it had appointed Mr W. Murdoch as itrepresentative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board. The appointment was appro veil. A committee of Wellington citizens has approved of the idea of inviting the New South "Wales State Orchestra to Xcw Zealand, to give a series of concerts. It is estimated that the whole cost will bo £5900, and that 23 concert.- at £3oo each will produce a good margin against possibilities in the way of loss. The Anglican Church bazaar, to be held on Wednesday, should attract many visitors, especially as several of the "stalls W UI be laden with useful articles. The plain stall will be supervised by Mrs Huthwaite, fancy stall by Miss Neilands, the produce by Mrs F. S. Simeon, the Xnias-troe and L-ran-tub by Mi.-ses Turned and'.Stevens, while Mr C. Ferry will entertain those present with a Punch and July show. Mrs J. K. Bills will lie in charge of the tearoom, and'will be pleased to receive donations of cakes, etc. A meeting will be held in Druids' Hall. Otaki. on Friday. 17th inst.. for the purpose of reorganising the Otaki branch of the New Zealand Sports Protection League.
