(From Our Own Correspondent).

On 31st January Miss Marion Purdie celebrated her 21st birthday by giving a party- in St. Thomas' Church Hall, and a very pleasant evening was spent by the many friends who assembled to wish Miss Purdie “many happy returns." Among the many nice presents received by the popular young lady was a very handsome silver manicure set, presented by Mr -A. Ct. Williams from many old friends and well-wish-ers. Dancing, singing and games were indulged in till midnight. Excellent music was supplied by Mr and Mrs E. Smith and Miss Casey,'and a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Hang Syne” and “She's a Jolly Good Fellow."

Captain Earl and Mr Norman Elder have returned from the front. Both have still to undergo medical treatment for their wounds received at'Bapaumc. Mr Ernest Brown, who was discharged from hospital on 12th December, has boon readmitted to hospital in England, suffering from the old injury to his arm, received at Bapaumc on 2fith August, IPIS. This news is most disappointing to his friends, as he was expected back in New Zealand about the cud of the present month.
