OTAUTAU TENNIS CLUB.

The official opening* of the: loca courts took place m iin^ weather oi Wednesday afternoon, there /being: i large attendance. The President^ M] R., Janson, expressed' gratification ai the large number assembled. He thought 6tautau was particularly fortunate iii possessing several of the finest Sports Grounds afid^ Club appointments m -the (district and' Voi which. J>hc Tennis Club was one. This fact should be appreciated by members. The Club had entered an A and B team m the competition 'and, - haying: lost " about -6 of last year's regular players, they would hav/e to look to the younger nleinlbers; With th y e assistance of the. several older and more experienced^ players; it was hoped the. match play would improve.. There was a small debt on the pavilion and likely an effort would be run next winter. It gave him pleasure to declare the courts op/en and ask Mr 8 Janson to strike the first ball. \ Mrs Janson complied, after which a Yankee Tournament was run. Miss P. McDougall and Mr F. An enjoyable time was spent m dancing, games and community singing. Music was supplied by Mrs F. L. .Smith, Misses Burns, Stroudj Anderson and Messrs Janson and J. Smith. Mr Janson, President, said the Club intended running^ dances every fortnight, the admission to be l/ : , with a light supper provided. . Those present were Mr and Mrs Janson, Mr-and Mrs F. L. Smith, Mr and Mrs Irving f Misses Hope, Renowden, Brown, Stroud, Brass, -Burns, Laing*, Hardy, Stevens (2), McDougall, Anderson, > Smellie, Smyth and Chisholm; Messrs Harrington, Smith, Pritchett, Stevens, .
