Saturday was a beautiful day and . the Recreation Ground was looking, its best *>r this year's. 'Guid(es' Sports Rally. ■■-_.-. ? The Riverton, Winton, Colac an;! Otautau Companies were well represented m the many competitive events run to decide which Company should hold the Walden Silver Cup, held last yeai' by the Otautau Company. This ■•Gup;'- wa's; donated by Mrs Walden, the Commissioner of the Riverton area for competition among the companies m the Western District. Colac is newly admitted and only had a few members present, "but the other three companies with their Captains, were v fully represented. After a fine afternoon's sports with , many keen finishes, Riverton won the Cup with 36 points f Winton second with 26, Otautau .10 and Colac 4. , The Otautau Lady's' Committee entertained the visitors to afternoon tea and later to tea at the Croquet pavilion. Commissioner Mrs Reekie presented the Walden Cup ?to Captain Miss Houston, of Riverton. She congratulated them on their good win and thanked the visitors for their attendance. Mrs Reekie also had the pleasure of presenting miniature silver cups "for Jhe best individual efforts, Guide Una Borland, with 14 points, ' and Guioc Joan' Walden, with 10 points, both of the Riverton Company. The following were presented .wiih prizes": 100 yards race— Guide Una Borland; 75 yards, under 14 years, — Joan Walden; High Jump — Una Bor-" land; Long Jump — B; Mitchell; Hop, Step and Jump— D. Blackmore ; Biscuit and Whistling 'Guides — M. Dixon and Maida Cussen; Sfclegged race____vl. Borland and Joan Walden ; Driver and Blind Horse Race— B. Mitchell .and D. Walker; Potato— D^ Blackmore, . Skipping Race— Joan Walden ; . Obstacle Race— Lily Maxwell. In the hidden Treasure Hunt, Captain Miss Donnan had hidden 300 paper butterflies on the Recreation Hill;. Guide Sybil Wesney winning, with 73, while two others found 69 and 61 respectively. Mrs Reekie congratulated all the winners on their performances. In returning thanks for ihe hospitality extended*, both Commissioners Mrs Walden and Mrs Dr. Moana; Gow, extended congratulations ta Otautau on their fine Recreation Area, ; the spWdid Rest Room and cleanliness of the Main Street. These public vantages were; a v f real asset to the Town and were a credit to ■everyone who, m any way, was respbrisibleyf or their present , Condition. The* fine day had helped very materially for a splendid rally and the Brownies and Guides would long remember their visit to Otautau.
