SURPRISE PARTY.
• — -tMethodist friends met at the residence of Mr and Mrs E. Harrington : on Thursday • evening^ last, to spend an evening in honour of their duaghter, Nurse . Harrington, who is to be married shortly, and taking up residence in North Auckland. The evening- was spent in competitions and g-ames,' vocal . items being given by Mrs Brooker, Mr T. Stroud and a recitation by Mrs Liglitfoot, all of- which were heartily received. At supper time opportunity was tafcen uy Mrs Wesnej r „ to make a presentation of an antipue vase to- Miss Harrington, on behalf of those present. Mrs Wesney wished Miss Harrington long life, prosperity,- and many years of happiness, in her new home in the far North. Mrs iightio'ot endorsed these remarks, i Rev Challtenger said he was glad to < \b_ t'bere to do honour to one of tne Harrington clan, who had all proved good workers for the church. He hoped i Miss Harington would still' maintain . her interest in the/ work of the church - and assist to forward* 'its progress wherevere she may settle. Mr Wesf ney supported the previous speaker's . remarks, lie was very pleased to be
present, having known Miss Harringfon from /-childhood and had watched her progress through the • ensum*. years. She had travelled and rilled many, positions with credit m. her occupation as a Nurse, m Hokitika, Methyeri; Christchurch, Wellington and Ashburton, actiug as Matron on several occasions. Miss Harrington had also had a good home training .and the speaker felt sure that she would make a good wife and settle: dowri happily m her home. Mil E... Harrington responded on behalf of his daughter, thanking" \; the speakers for their kindly\ references and for the gift. He appreciated the i surprise visit that evening, all. pie- • sent were friends of the family, and ■• he accepted it as a mark of esteem and goodwill to the family. He felt sura Nellie would appreciate it and always remember her friends m, Otautau, and would be pleased at any t:ime to see any of them m her own home at Waipoua, Kauri Forest, Experimental Station, Donnelly's Crossing, North Auckland.; ■".; The evening terminated m the early ; •Hours of- the morning 'with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Those present were: Mr and Mrs E. Harrington, Rev and .Mrs ' gef, Mr .and Mrs Wesney; Mesdames . Bro'oker ,McMiWan, Chilton, Stroud, Lightfoot, Hill, , Jacquiery ; Misses Harrington" (2), Wesney,>Seatter (2), Harrison Stroud, McFadgen (2); Messrs Harrington and Stroud.
