Otautau Band of Hope.

ANNUAL CONCERT.

The annual 'concert of the Band of ; Hope 'always attracts a : large attend- ' auce oi: boys and girls, who invariably are accompanied by, parents and friends. Tho concert on Friday, evening attracted juveniles m strong force, there did not, however, appear so many adults. The ladies of th© W.C.T.U., who are responsiblej for this annual event, go to a lot of troubje to present an attractive programme and invariably put on something by way of entertainment that rouses the enthusiasm of the young and the approbation of the adults. Th» programme on Friday, night was a really good one, although so much juvenile sickness during the past few weeks had' prevented as much attention being paid to the preparation of concerted and spectacular pieces. Rev. J B. Bickerstaff presided at the opening of the proceedings, and was succeeded by Mr John Fisher later m. the evening. ■•• . ■

The programme opened with apian6forte selection by Miss Nellie Renowden, followed by a sonjj and chorus; "AH round the world," by the Band of Hope children. were given by Misses Kathie Harrington, Kl'afchie Lumsden; Enid Wesney,. Connie Eason, Adah Ayrtbn, Mary, Campbell, Masters Murray Laing, Peter Jaquiery and Mr W. J. Wesney. Songs were i rendered by Misses Adah Ayrton, Gjadys Renowden, Nellie Renowden, and Messrs G. F. Griffith* ' and G. McAnergney. Miss' Bella Smellie gracefully performed a Highland dance. 4 boys gave a selection on the flute, and twice a company of boy Band of Hopwrs gave cnoruse*. Misses Nellie and Gladys Renowden a duat. Most of the items were *ncored with enthusiasm.

The concert portion of the programme finishing, a dialogue wa« v«ry well staged, depicting the tragedy of " drink " getting the boy m the family. An abundant supper was provided, and the proceedings terminated with the "National Antbem."
