» The monthly ineetng, held on I,Bth ius(., was attended by Mr. R, Sealter (Chairman) and Commisioners G. Geor'geson, J. Parmenter c W J. Wcsney and L. J. Brown. Mr. A. ' The Saleyards Co. declined to pay anything towards repairs to Macandrew Street, but offered half cost of putting m concrete culverts. — It -was resolved the Works Committee inspect and report to next meeting. The Tennis Club asked that top-dressing be gone on with. — Matter left to surfaceman to go ahead as opportunity offered. ' The Hastings Borough Council wrote asking endorsement of a {resolution- calling on the Government' to strengthen the "financial position of the Health Department and engage the best experts available to investigate and combat epidemic?. " — The Board supported the resolution. Overtime was authorised to be paid the Boards surfacemen for' extra work done during the epidemic, members speaking very highly of the services of Mr. McAfee. On the motion of Messrs Wesney and Georgeson, it was decided to invite the members of the River Board to a conference on 27th inst. to consider tree planting on the enbankments, and the same members moved that the chairman call a public meeting to form a Progressive League to get a movejon for public vvorks m the district to attract returned soldiers and others *to the district. J. H. Thomas submitted a propasal to the Board for building a concrete motor garage on the old Hall site. — On the motion of Messrs Parmenter and Wesney, the Clerk was directed to submit the proposal to the Board's solicitor for an opinion as to the Board's powers to proceed with the work, which commended itself to members. Messrs Wesney and L. J. Brown moved that the chairman call a meeting of the Soldier's Memorial eupporteis for Monday, 2nd inst., to consider what steps to take to -raise'the neoossary"funds. The chairman reported attending with with Mr Parmenter the Electric Power Conference m Invercargill and approving of tho proposals.— -Report received. The following matters were decided on : 1. To purchase a mower m September, tho present method of cuttiug grass on street lines,- etc., being too slow and cosily. ' 2. To leave the disposal of the grass on the Recreation ground m the Chairman's hands. 3. To request the police to tako action against motorists and motor cyclists fcr exceeding the speed limit of twelve miles an hour m the township. Accounts amounting to £1)0 12a 4d were passed for payment.
