From Week to Week. The Annual School Excursion to Colao Bay takes place on Saturday. Mr W. J. Finn, cf Wreys Bush, is the latest recruit from these parts to offer his services to his King and Country. He leaves for Trentham on Saturday with other members of the Southland Reinforcements Mr M. McCorkindale has disposed of his Billiard' and Hairdressing Saloon to an Otautau oitizen, Mr W. J. O'Connor, a previous resident of this township. Dr Fleming has resigned his position of medical adviser to the Nightcaps Miners Medical Association and will devote his attention to his private practice. It is not yet known if a successor to Dr Fleming will be sought forWork m the company's mine has brightened up considerably of late and during tne past fertnight ten men have beon added to the complement of workers m the mine. Apparently orders are keeping at a high level at Moretown also as there was employment for five additional miners there last week. The popular laird of Birch wood, Mr A. W. Rodger, jnr., is removing to Invercargill shortly, and will reside there for a period during which time he will follow up business interests.

Rev. S. Gaston, from Australia, will occupy the pulpit (on trial) m the Presbyterian Cnurch on tho evening of the 14th inst and the morning of the 21st inst. A gazette notice intimates the appointment of Col-Srgt. A. W. Clapp to be second lieutenant (on probation). Mr Wni. Moss, of the well-known firm of Moss Bros, has retired from the partnership with the intention of tak»np; up farming m the Woodlands' district. Last night he was to be entertained at Wairaki by the resident* of the district. Doubtless some Wairaki correspondent will be good onough to forward you, Mr Editor, a report of tho proceedings.
