Amateur Athletic Meeting at Auckland.
SPLENDID PERFORMANCES BY ! KEDDELL.
The American Athletic ITeam brought the| first part of the tour iv New Zealand to a close at Auckland on Saturday, the meeting being noteworthy (for a number of great athletic performances, m which Ge aid Keddell, of Otautau, was a prominent factor, He again deteated the American, Templeton, winning by five yards against the wind, m, under the conditions, the splendid time of 15 8 ssecs. As the track at Auckland is recognised to be a very Anemone, a good performance was expected from Keddell, and had the wind been a minus quantity,. it is safe to say he would have at least equalled if not beaten his Australasian record of 15 8-lOsecs— three yards faster than his most recent performance. Keddell also won the running broad jump with a leap of 22ft Bins, the best perj lormance accomplished m New Zealand since 1906, when he (Keddell) I put up the present record of -Si' 3inf. I Dormer (N.Z ) beat Power (U.S. A.) m t the one mile run m the fast time of 4min 24 3-ssecs ; McHolme (N.Z.) defeated Caugbey (U.S.A.) m throwing 161 b hammer, placing a new rec >rd for Australasia with a throw of 147-fc sinß ; Adams (N.Z.J a^-.-^t Caughey m the shot puttiu'' w i • I iff; I 9|ius, us againot 41ft [)'■ , l.n m Patitiereton North ou '\. _.. v ., lvi / f Caughey established a new record tor"* Australasia with a putt of 45ft Q^in. In the quarter mile fiat, Keddell ran a dead heat for second place m the fast time of 50 4 osecs. Yesterday, Keddell, with the ofhjr New Zealanders selected, sailed for Melbourne to compete at the Australian Championships there on 24th and 26th January. He will return m time to compete for Southland m the New Zealand Championships at Dunedin on 7th February, and later at the Southland Championships to be held at Otautau.
