It consists of purebred Ayrshire cattle and Roinney rams. - Mr Rodger aleo imported at the same time two Clydesdale marts, but it was not necersary to withhold these m quarantine, and they have been finding their land legs .v Edendale Dairying m the Drummond district is falling back year by year, and it is apparent that the majority of settlers m that district are averse to thj monotony of labour involved m milking. At this time last season, ttris factory was receiving upwards of 1000 gallons of milk, but at the present time the intake has not reached 600. gallons. A large number of horses have died m this district owing to their beiog troubled win red worm. This is attributed co the floods leaving the pastures m a dirty condition, as since the young grass h>s cqine away no complaints have been heard The<e red worms a r e not more than an inch m length, and they seem to eat right through any horse they attack. The animal gradually and consistently falls away m condition, and an attack of scouring completes the deadly work. The droppings from horses affected literally swarm with thesfl undesirables. Messrs Thomson and Gaorgeson, the local building contractors, were the successful tenderers for the Yellow Bluff bridge, and also for ihe new skeleton grandstand for the Wairio Jockey Club. This latter is to be erected m time for the annual races m January, and will hold 600 persons. Tn this issue tenders are invited by Messrs Anscombe and Smith, architects, for tne erection of new banking premises and dwelling for the National Bank of New Zealand. The General Booth Memorial Hall is to be opened m Riverton by Commissioner Riohards on Friday, sth December, at 2.80 p.m. In theeven ing at 6 o'clock there is t) be a] ham ond fowl banquet, and thereafter a real rousing Salvation Army . meeting will be held m the new hall. On the following evening at 8 o'clock the Commissioner will deliver a lecture on 11 The Natives of Africa." X ' The ereotion of the Booth Memorial Hall makes a decided forward step en the part of the Army m the Western Distriot. The hall is a commodious brick structure occupying a central, position m Palmerston Street, Uivertou and should {serve as a rallying pant for Salvationists for years to come. Unfortunately the weather conditions of Monday evening 1 pro vented the match arranged to be played eft the local tennis courts between Reolabite md Non-Reehabite members |eing held. It is, howeyer, antieipatqjFthat it will be played on some neaidate, jf whioh the teams will be notifi d. The funeral of the late Jam s Arihur took pjiaoe on Saturday, • tfc . renains being interred' ih the Oiutauj jemetery. ' Deceased w&s a 'well- j I known blacksmith of tbe 4 tow^hip, | C md passed away on Thursday lat. If

As arranged at Wednesday's meeting of the Wallace County Council, the chairman and councillors yentsrday visited the proposed site of the bridge at Sinclair's* Ford, to see if the offer made by the settlers there to provide the material for a bridge over the Wairaki river, provided the council paid for the labour, should be aooepted. After inspecting the site, an excellent one, and hearing -the engineer's description of the timber to bz used (the old Oriwia bridge, ibonght by the settlers for £50), it was decided to proceed xrith the erection of the bridge, which will be a light traffic one. Arrangements were made with Mr Wm. Baird, the contractor erect ing the new Otawia bridge, -to commnnoe the erection of the new bridge, immediately on the completion of his contraot, which will be, in about a week's time. An inspection of th roads of the locality was also made by the councillors, and it is f safe to say that their journey of the Manuka, even at this time ot the year, will not soon be forgotten. It is probable that a grant of £200, £ for JB, for the Birchwood-Feldwick road, will, as a result of tb.3 visit, bs taken up, as the grant will, we understand, be further subsidised by'a private gentlemen. The most R«»v. Prim ite, Bishop of the Diocese will b; m tue district tomorrow (Wednesday), and will bold a confirmation service at 7.30 p.m. m the Anglican Church, Otautau. From all paints of view tne First Annual Show of the newly formed VVinton A. & P. Association, held last Wednesday, wis very successful. Although there was not large competition m the draught horses, the other sections drew full representation, while the competitions were a big feature. The attani&nce was very large, £70 being taken, at the gates. Local exhibitors who were successful were : — Draughts : Messrs J. B, Fcrd (first and champion with Premier Balgarvie), John MoFarlane, C C. Ca'der, VV. Kennedy, H. Mathe son ; Thoroughbreds : A. Chisholm B. D»oksan. J. »haw, F.
