NIGHTCAPS.

From Week to Week. School Concert. — The annual school concert, which was hold on Friday last m the Coronation Hall, was easily voted to be the best of many successful school concerts gheld here. It is many a long day sinco such a larga audience nas b9tn seen here, and judging by the repeated encores, everyone enjoyed the numerous items on the programme, j A more perfect night could not have been wished for, and consequently many residents o* me m. The roads bave dried up nicely during the previous few days fine weather, while the brilliant moonlight assisted the drivers to avoid the numerous ruts on tho roads. Previous to the commencement of the concert the Brass Band rendered some lively music outside the hall. Mr Andrew Hunter, chairman of the school committee, presided, and called on Mrs Captaneas > and Mr F. Thomas to , operi the concert with a pianoforte duet. This was followed by many juvenile items, all of which were splendidly received, and many were cheered to the, echo. One of the most popular items was a sailor's hornpipe danced by eight small girls, while fourteen small boys, dressed as the Nursery Army, also sang very nicely. The Grand Maroh exeouted by the Senior boys and gi Is, was well performed, and a comedy performed by Masters Webb, Carrick and Lee, was a good item. The other items by the children, songs and recitations, were all well reoeived by the audtence. The following items were also rendered during the evening : — Bong-i by Miss Docherty Mrs J. W. Tinker, Messrs Thomas, Loasby Cusack, J. Grant, Dover, A. Clapp, and W. Taylor ; duet by Miss Dickson and Mr McPheat, violin solo by Miss Patterson, Concertina seleotion by' Mr Johnstone, and a mouth organ selection by Mr G. At the conclusion, the chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, which was carried by acclamation. A successful dance, at which fully 80 couples were present, was held after the concert. Manuka Road. — To avoid the woisfc of this road a speoial track has been cut through the manuka oo Messrs T. Quested's and W. Tinker's properties on the north side, and then across the road, and through Mr G. Brighton's property on the south side. The track is exclusively for the use of light traffio It is a wonder that such a track was not constructed earlier. Those residents and visitors who intend being present at Birchwood on Wednesday on the occasion of the banquet to be tfndered to Mr Rodger will appreciate the track. General*— I hear that Mr Donald Manson purchased the other day a very nice line of breeding ewes from Mr Dickson of Wairio for his Franklyn§Tde run. Mrs R, M. Gairdner held a very successful euchre party at '* Taramunga" on Tuesday last, at which some 80 friends were present The euchre prize was won by Miss D. Gardner, and the loser's prize by Miss Wright. Rev, Nickle, of Dunedin, will conduct both morning and evening services m the Presbyterian Church next Sunday.

The members' and adherents of the Methodist Churoh are at present preparing for a sale of work to be held shortly with the object of raiding funds for the erecticn ot a IParsonage. A Ladies' Sewing Guild is at present hard at work preparing for the stalls.
