Mi c Accident. — Robert Cottrell, an old and experienced miner, met with a painful accident last week while working m the mine. It appears that he had fired a shot, and at the same time another shot had been fired close by. Hearing the latter go off, he mistook it for his own, and went back to the place just as his own shot went off. He received a very nasty scalp wound, necessitating eight stitches being put m his head, as well as having his leg cut and biuised. He is, however, progressing as well as can ,he exjected under the ciroumstances. Oddfellows' Social There was a large attendance at the Ladies Social Evening given by the looal branch of Oddfellows on Wednesday last. The function took place at Mrs Dempster's Tea Rooms, and an enjoyable evening was spent wit music, singing, dancing and gameß. General. —
