AUSTRALIAN AVIATION.

The Minister of Defence (Senator Pearce) made an important announcement at Mel-, bourne relating to the policy of the Government m connection with military avia-" tkm (says the 'Argus'). Briefly, it comprises the appointment of two aviators and the purchase of four flying machines for the purposes of an aviation, school. The Minister said that he had placed the matter before the Acting Chief of General Staff, who had made two proposals- One had been the establishment of an aviation school m the Commonwealth, and the other to send officers' to England for instruction. The scheme adopted practically embodied what Colonel Wilson had suggested with regard to an aviation school The Minister had decided to adopt that alternative, and had referred the matter to the Military Board for remarks and recommendations. The board had recommended the establishment of the school, and also that two officers be sent to England for instruction. He had approved of the recommendations, but, m view of the existing shortage of officers, he had decided to defer carrying into effect the recommendation to send two officers to England.
