r The third evening sports on Wed--3 nesday night passed off successfully, _ but the attendance was not up to the ;> average, owing no doubt to the latef ness of the arrival of the Wairio race--3 train. The competition was good, and I the events were well contested. Mr \ W. L. Gardiner, who made his debut ( as a starter, was very successful, while . the other officials all carried out their 3 duties m a thorough manner. Henderson ran surprisingly wtll, and at all times was running outßide his handicap, and although the back-markers pulled up m the last lap, he won by 70 yards, running very strongly. A great race ensued for second place, T. R. Robertson, with a characteristic sprint, getting up a few yards irom the tape. OTAUTAU TEAM.
