Hypnotism is becoming a dangerous asset or the criminal classes m America. The latest instance (says the London 'Daily Telegraph') comes from Cleveland, Ohio. The burglar, dressed , m the height of fashion and gentle m manners and conversation, first appeared at the,, apartments of Mr Arthur Croft one Sunday night, and represented himself to Mrs Croft as a close friend of her husband. They sat on the verandah and talked for half an hour. He convinced Mrs Croft that he really was a friend of her abseut husband. The burglar returned on, the following Tuesday night and found Mrs Croft again on the verandah. He asked for a drink of water, and when she returned with the glass she found him seated m the parlor. Mrs Croft turned on the electric, light. Then the man arose, made a few passes, and she was hypnotised. On regaining her senses she found that her jewels' were t;one and the drawers had been ransacked.
