OBITUARY

MR. PERCY DALRYMPLE GREAT CHURCHWORKER A great churchworker and highly respected citizen of Opunnke, Mr. Percy Dairymple passed away at tlie New Plymouth hospital last Monday after a prolonged period of ill- health. He will be missed by a wide circle of friends in the district. Born at Kirby Merxloe, Leicestershire, England, 76 years ago, Mr. Daliymplejjame to New Zen'.and shortly after the first World War. He first lived -A Wellington for about 10, years before moving to Opunake where he took over a fancy goods and .stationery business which he conducted until he retired in 1945. Mr. Dalrymple, who was once described as the perfect churchwarden, was a staunch member •of the Anglican Church, and xii later years gave much of his time tc church work. He became a vestryman in 1937, was elected synodsman in J 941 and Vicar's Warden in 1942, setting a high example of devotion to duty in tiiese offices, and ,as a citizen and friend generally. Mr. Daiiymple was also one -jf the oldest and most popular members of the Opunake Bowling Club, being president of the Club for 2 years. Despite his long illness Mr. Dalrymple is remembered for his unfailing cheerfulness and the district as a whole deeply regrets liis passing. Mr. Dalrymple is survived by bis wife and one son, Mr. William Dalrymple of Wallacetown. The funeral on Wednesday was very largely attended and many beautiful floral 1 emblems were placed at the graveside..
