R.S.A. ACTIVITIES

MONTHLY MEETING FOOD PARCEL SCHEME The monthly meeting of the Opunake District R.S.A. executive was held on Tuesday, the chairman Mr. C. Harding presiding- over a full attendance Mr. N. Reardon,. R.S.A, Rehabilitation Representative also attended the meeting and discussed rehabilitation matters _ with the committee before retiring. The treasurer’s monthly report was read and received and accounts totalling £3G-11-0 were passed for payment. Aid far Smethwick Mr. R. W. Morris reported that 48 food parcels were despatched to Smethwick, bringing the total for five months to- 223, a monthly average of nearly 45. The committee is making a special endeavour to increase the September quota as these will be the Christmas paicel issue and a sum oFi£ls was voted towards supplementing food parcels next month. A personal canvas of outlying districts is also to be undertaken and the executive makes an especial appeal to members and residents of the district for full support on this occasion in Older to help in brightening the Festive season for an increasing number of Smethwick residents. The building sub-committee undertook to investigate prefabricated bouses from the supIv, suitability and comparative cost angle. Mr. Y. McGregor reported that arrangements for Ladies’ Night on September 11th were well in hand and that the social committee was planning to make this a special occasion.

The farming sub-committee’s report was also received, and the Chairman intimated that the arrangements for the Street Mart on Monday next had been finalised.
