INTEREST IN NATIVE SCHOOLS

N.Z. TOUR PLANNED CANADIAN DOCTOR’S VISIT Dr. D. Jenness, of the Department of Mines and Resources, Ottawa, Canada, recently visited Whakatane, accompanied by Mr. P. T. Woodley, inspector of Native Schools, and Mrs. Woodley. Dr. Jenness, who is keenly interested in Indian problems in his own ‘country, is touring the native districts of New Zealand with the idea of comparing conditions of Maori community life and education here with those applying to the Indians in Canada.

Asked for comments on his impressions so far, Dr. Jenness said he was only at the start of his tour, and did not feel that he had seen enough to form any opinions vet. He complimented the, district on the sample of weather Ft was turning on for him, and remarked that he had seen some truly beautiful scenery in the past few days. The trip will be accomplished in slow stages, as it is Dr. Jenness’a wish to meet some of the Maori people and to study the workings of the native schools.
