PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS

A special meeting of the Domain Board was held in the Bor-

ough Chambers on Thursday evening'. The Mayor, Mr. it. IT. Hug’hson presiding over a, full attendance of- members. Messrs. A. R. Reynolds, S. Littlejohn and J. A. H. Lowe met the hoard as a deputation from the Opunake Rugby League Club in support of a request for part use of the Recreation ground for matches during the season. A general discussion followed the Board members pointing out that until the proposed improvements were completed there would be a shortage of suitable grounds for winter sports was finally decided to grant the request subject to the league club making mutual arrangements with the Rugby loot-ball Club and the Hockey Club, the Board .to receive the usual .15 per cent of gate takings. Before retiring the deputation thanked the Board for the -courteous hearing. It was decided to make application for a permit to renew the roof on the stand in either fibrolite or aluminium corro gated sheets.

The following programme of work at the Domain, recommded by the Reserves committee, after a recent meeting with sporty delegates, was approved: (a) The trees protruding in the ground from the Northwest houndrv be removed; the centre

fence and seating be removed. 4 .,(b) That the whole area from No. 1 ground to the rear bouudry be levelled and resown with grass seed. (The Clubs present at the meeting intimated their willingness to assist financially.) (c) The Opunake Cricket Club be granted permission to lay a concrete wicket between the No 1 and No 2 football fields, (cl) That the ultimate plan provide for No 1 and No 2 football fields, a hockey Field at the rear, also provision for an athletic track on No 1 football field. The Clerk was instructed to invite tenders for the above work. The Reserves Committee, be-

fore undertaking any major work, will also discuss the matter with the present leasee.
