SATISFACTORY PAYMENTS
PENALTY NOW IN FORCE
The collection of rates for the year ending 31st March, 1948, before the additional 10 per cent penalty was added was not up to last years record collection of 97.84 per cent. The amount collected was 97.5 per cent of the total levied. The levy was £5915-4-4 of which £5708-14-5 lias been collected.
The individual rates - were: Consolidated rate: levied £2421-6-0, collected £2384-10-5 or 98.51 per cent; Sanitation: levied £415, collected £404 or 97.3 per cent; Harbour: levied £3078-18-4, collected £2980 4-0 or 9G.7 per cent.
The total amount of this year's rates outstanding is £146-9-11, compared with £l2O-2 10 last, year.
Of the arrears of £62-18-11 as at last April, 1947, £59-4-4 has been received leaving £3-14-7 of the old rates outstanding. The total rates and arrears due, amounted to £5978-3-3 and the payments amounted to £5827-18-9, leaving £l5O-4-6 ingLast years collection at this date represented 97.84 per cent of the total amount levied. Collections for the previous two years were 1946: 97.52 per cent; 1945 : 96. 5 Q per cent.
