FINE PERFORMANCES
Opunake teams competing in the Taranaki Surf Life Savin" Championships at Oakura on Sunday gained three outstanding successes, winning the Tabor Shield, 6 man reel and rescue senior championship, the Junior real and rescue 6 man championship and the Grey Shield, March Past Championship (retained). With a clear-cut margin of •points in the Tabor shield event, Opunake gained a particularly meritous win over Old Boys. Both these clubs have entered for the N.Z. Championships at Dunedin. To win the Taranaki Junior reel and rescue G man championship in the first attempt is a really first-class effort and members of the Opunake A team deserve hearty congratulations. The March Past Championship for the Grey Shield was won by Opunake for the second year in succession. J. Dudley performed well in the senior beltman's championship gaining 2nd in his heat. He was unplaced in the final. L. Butturini also performed well _in the Junior Beltman's Championship, being placed 2nd in his heat. Opunake also gained a third in the Taranaki Pennant, G man reel and rescue (fixed positions). At the conclusion of the championships, trophies were presented by the president, of the Taranaki centre of the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association, Mr. P. J. Riordan. Details' are:
