FOREMAN'S REPORT

The Borough foreman's report (Mr. J. De Castro) for July was as follows:

"In Domett Street tlie shoulders of the Bitumen have been banked, a culvert put in at the entrance to the Farmers Co-op., 8 chains of water table cleaned and the road patched. In King Street 8 chains of footpath cleaned, 16 chains of water table and -the road patched. In Gisbome Terrace 10 chains of road gravel blinded, 4 chains of new road formed ready for metalling, 1G chains of water table cleaned and 5 chains of footpath regravelled. In Tennyson Street 8 chains of road gravel blinded, Whitcombe road 7 chains, Allison Street 9 chains, Fox Street 10 chains and Havelock Street 4 chains and 4 chains of water table cleaned. In Dorset Street 4 chains of water table cleaned and the road patched. The Beach Highway has been cold patched with Teximol, the fence removed from the Domain in Dorset Street, Gravel prepared for maintenance, Rubbish removed from round the Drill Hall, Water Channels cleaned ancl Rubbish collected.

Mr. C. E. Warner, Sexton and Caretaker of the Domain, submitted the following reports : "I have cleaned out the end of the big drain which collapsed during operations by the Public Works Department and this has allowed a good deal of water to get away. I have taken the old wire netting off the fence at the back of the shed and put on fresh wire. General cleaning up in the Cemetery was also carried out." Work at Domain "I have put up a chain of fence at the Middleton's Bay corner and will plant boxtkorn when available. I have also planted some flax in the gaps under the trees at the top corner. The trees on Tasman Street frontage have been trimmed- back from the overhead wires. Health Report The Health Inspector, Mr. J. W. Brimblecombe reported for July as follows: Habitations inspected 8, Notices served 1; Plumbing and drainage inspections 5; Food premises 3. BOROUGH FINANCE TOWN CLERK'S REPORT Mr. H. E. Collins, Town Clerk, submitted the following . report at Tuesday's Council meeting: Receipts: Current Rates, £577-13-4; Rate Arrears, £l7-6-9; Rents, £B2-1-4; Heavy Traffic Fees, £42-18-8; Drivers Fees, £37-5-0; Cattle Grazing, £6-0 0; Sundry Licenses, 5/-; Dog Tax, 8/6; Library, £57-7-0; Town Hall. £22-7-3; Cemetery, £lB-17-6; Sales and Private Work, £22-8-3; Heavy Traffic Plates, 1/-; Total, £BB4-19-7.

Bank Statements as at 31/7/47 showed § the following credits in the various accounts: District Fund, credit balance £1,401-10-8; Harbour Fund, £4,037-1-5; Truck Benewal Fund Account, £l5B-17-7; Opunake and District Centennial Memorial and Celebrations Account, £329-18-5. A statement of rate arrears as at 12/8/47 showed rates outstanding of £5-13-7.

Library: 31 new books were bought during the month and nine new members joined. Building Permits: Four permits were issued for alterations and additions totalling £142.
