COASTAL BASKETBALL

TWO SERIES PLAYED FAST AND EVEN GAMES There were several fast and evenly contested games in the Coastal Basketball Division on Saturday, when two series were played, one in the morning' and the other in the afternoon. The Junior competition in the second round has been marred by the defaulting of teams. Results were:

Senior: Okato 20 v. Rahotu 18; Opunake, 28 v. Pungarehu Blue 15; Pungarehu Red 12 v. Warea 1. Opunake and Okato drew 21 all; Pungarehu Blue 12 v. Warea 2; Rahotu 21 v. Pungarehu Red 8.

Juniors: Rahotu A defaulted to Opunake; O.D.H.S. 5 v. Pungarehu 2; Pihama IT v. Puniho 5; Rahotu B defaulted to Okato. Rahotu B defaulted to Pihama; Opunake 15 v. Pungarehu T; Puniho 5 v. Okato 3; Rahotu A defaulted to O.D.H.S. Interest was centred on the matches played by the three leading teams. In the morning Okato met Rahotu and although Rahotu had slightly the better share of the ball their forwards had a day “off” while Okato’s forwards rarely missed a goal. The score at half time was 10 all.

In the afternoon Opunake and Okato nlayed a hard game both teams feeling the loss of the girls who had gone through to Stratford for practise with the Taranaki Reps, Play was even in all thirds and both forwards were throwing well, Pungarehu Blue were handicapped with the absence of some of their players, they combined better in the first game when they won from Warea. Pungarehn. Red played a good game but, just lack the combination necessary to finish off their game.
