BRITISH SHIPYARDS
KEEP WORLD LEAD IT.S.A. IN THIRD PLACE Britain’s shipyards are now building more Ilian 2,000,000 tons of merchant vessels, according to Lloj'd’s Register of Shipping. This figure, the highest reached since March, 1022, is equivalent to 54.8 per cent, of the world total. Of Britain’s leading competitors, the IT.S.A. has dropped to third place with approximately 215,000 tons. Sweden and France lead foreign yards with approximately 244,000 and 288,000 tons respectively. Overseas orders in hand or on order *in United Kingdom yards now cover more than 900,000 tons or about 28 per cent, of total orders. Britain’s biggest customers are still Norway and France, followed hv the Dominions and Portugal.
