ATHLETICS FIRST WIN OPUNAKE UNLUCKY Athletic secured its first win in the competitions on Saturday bv defeating Opunake by 14 points to 9. The game was evenly contested and willing, both, teams attempting to open up. pJay but faulty handling spoilt several promising movements. Opunake just missed scoring on several occasions, especially in the last 15 minutes, when the team pounded the Athletic defence repeatedly, and could be considered unlucky to lose. The change in the backs was an improvement, Elgar particularly, playing a pood game at second five-eights. Tamatea showed promise at first five-eights and when fit, should prove an asset to the team. The forwards also went well and again . secured their full share of the ball, Dudley, Mourie and McGregor being always prominent in the loose.
