Equality of Sacrifice. — Although he appreciated theii difficulties, Sergeant-Major G. IT. "Rell, who was present at the inaugural meeting of the local bran oh of the Defence Leap-no on Wednesday, ascribed the small reeuitpd strength of the volunleer forces to the apathy of employers. Many members of the forces were prevented from attending camp by the refusal of their employers to allow them time off. and" this had a marked «ffeot upon their training. Screen nt-Major Bell agreed with members of the branch that a compulsory system of training, ensuring* equality of sacrifice in this respect, would overcome the difficulty.
