A FISH STORY WITH A MORAL.

“You’ve got quite a good haul, my lad,” said the old gentleman to (lie small boy returning from a fisliin*»• expedition. “Where did you get it?” “(to down (ho path marked ‘Private’,” said the boy, ‘cross the paddock where it says ‘Beware of the bull,’ climb over the gate where there is a ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted’ notice, and then you’ll see a pool narked ‘No fishing alowed.’ That’s the place.” The moral is, of course, that human nature resents being^forbidden anything not essentially wrong. Tlie moment it is forbidden is created the irresistible desire to obtain it. No matter how many restrictions are imposed means will be found to- evade them and the position eventually becomes farcical. The surprising and disastrous results of prohibition in America (since repealed), and its similar total failure elsewhere, amply illustrate the point.
