THE MORON SHIELD UAUNUI v. PUNGAREHU Much int rest is being taken in tennis in the districts this season and marches' played between the various clubs have been closely contested. Good wea ther conditions during the holidays has had the effect of swellin ”• the number of members and clubs generally 'have no difficulty in placing strong teams in the competitions. Results of games played recently show that Uaonui and rehu have strong senior and jun- * ior teams respectively, both possessing young players who should b e heard of in Rigger tennis later on. The style and keenness in this branch of sport is very encouraging. Two matches played recently for the Moron Shield resulted as follows: — Oaonui B v. Pungarehu. Men’s Singles.—Brophy lost to M. Tioko 8-9: Roots beat T.'Tioko 9-4; Beardmore beat Bishop 9-2: Kira bea) Lealherbarrow 9-2. W omen’s Doubles.— Misses Brophy and Gray beat Misses H. Mitchell and Q. Coombe 7-5; Misses Gilhooly and Brophy beat Misses Mitchell and Roach 7-1. Combined Doubles. — Miss Brophy and Brophy beat Miss H. Mitchell and M .Tioko 7-3; Miss Gray and .Roots lost to Miss Coombe and T. Tioko 5-7; Miss Gilhooly and Beardmore beat Miss M. Roacli and Bishop 7-5; Miss Brophy and Kira beat Miss F.
