OIPUNAKE’S SUCCESS

AGAINST STRATFORD TEAM

With quite a few of the usual players away ou holiday, difficulty was experienced on Saturday to gather together a team to travel to Stratford, where t he game against the 11 eleven of that town was to to take place. The various gaps in the team were filled, and with rather mixed feelings regarding the result of the game, they set out ou the journey determined to put up a good showing against a combination which has shown great form at different stages of this competiou.

Stratford opened to the bowling of Wells and Watt and witha brief space, two wickets were down for one run. Nairn made a stand, and later Wilkes, but wickets continued to fall fairly cheaply until Campbel, one 01 the last batsmen, got to work with a will and had scored 53 runs before a good ball from Dobbin dislodged his bails.

With 14U runs on the board Stratford appeared to have the match in safe keeping but had reckoned without the hurricane displayed of Cuudy and Woolf ord who opened for the visitors. Start ing cautiously, both players later opened out and thrashed anything of a loose nature, Woolford hitting 12 ’ boundaries in his total °f 01 and Cuudy securing one sixer and six boundaries while compiling 51 runs, "With 112 runs-on the board for one wicket the chances of victory were indeed bright and although two more wickets went for a further five runs, McTavish, with 25 (retired) made the resun secure. McCullum 20, and Yep Id, both not out, showed that the team was in great form on the day and a repetition of this batting display will liven up rue game and give the local players a great deal more confidence in the future.
