LIFE-SAVING NOTES. THE RECENT CONTESTS. After their success at the beach on Sunday last, the local surf team are going to keep.up a regular practice, as on the and 2-3 th February the National Championships are to be held at Auckland, and it is hoped that the local boys will be able to participate, l.his, t-t course, depends' on the funds available. On Saturday afternoon next the following members will represent the club in the Flanuagan Cup (open sea swim) 2 miles, at Xew Plymouth:—B. S. Dudley, A. 11. l'ettigrew, D. Burton, and S. Spiers. Last year B. S. Dudley finished second in this event, and he should go a long way this year towards winning.- Hie other members should all perform well. On Sunday afternoon, at the beach Ihe first swim for the E. S. Jenkin Buttons will take place This event is a challenge rwim through the breakers foriheltmen and it will do a lot to make members keen and fit. The Buttons, ' which are of solid gold, are for A and B grade members. They depict a life-saver standing wearing belt, in front of reel, or- watch. The sea forms the background, and laurel leaves form each side. Below is a scroll with the words, "R. S. Jenkin Trophy" engraved, whilst above is a round life-buoy with letters "0.5.L.5.C." engraved and also A or B grade. The club also wished to acknowledge with thanks the following donations: Mr T. B.
