Bill Jones had just returned to London after working on a bridge building job in Egypt. "And did thev pay you well on the Nile, Mr Jones?"' 5 asked a friend whom he met at the pub. "Oh," was the reply, "we s ad to wait till the end of the month. Not exactly on the nilc."
