JOLLY PARTY

COMING OF ACE. On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashworth entertained about 150 guests in St. Patrick’s Hall at a coming of age party in honour of their son, Leonard. The hall was artistically decorated with coloured streamers and lights, relieved with a background of pot plants (ferns and greenery). Mrs. Ashworth, becomingly dressed in black, received the guests. A handsome cake made by Mrs. Ashworth, and iced by Mr. Day, was cut by the honoured guest. The toasts were proposed by the following; “Guest of the evening,” Mr. W. H. Burgess, responded to by Mr. Leonard Ashworth: “Parents,” by Mr. J. Hewsou, responded to by Mr. H. Ashworth, the guests singing “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr. Jack Hooker provided the music for the evening and assisted to keep the guests in a jolly mood. Songs were rendered by Miss V . Murray (Rahotu), tapdancing, Miss G. Baylis. Extras were played by Messrs Quin, Muschamp and Milne (New Plymouth). The guest was the recipient of many valuable and useful gifts.
