The Lambie Shield

ANNUAL BOWLING TOURNEY DETAILS OF SECTION PLAY. The weather throughout the section play for the Lambie Snield bowling tournament which commenced on Wednesday has not been too good and the section play which concluded yesterday was several times held up on this account. Nevertheless, the play was of a very good standard, in many eases the final head, and occasionally an extra head was played to decide the winner. Owing to the large number of entries received, it was found necessary to transfer rinks to Rahotu and Pihama greens. The condition of the greens at each place was of high class order and the arrangements made by those in charge was all that could be desired.

_At Opuuake the visitors were welcomed to the green by the president (Mr. Graham Hammond) who, in the course of his remarks, mentioned the happy spirit and sportsmanship that prevailed amongst bowlers. All were gathered to play their best and the losers would be the first to acclaim the victors. He trusted the green would suit all present, much work having been completed to bring it up to its present high standard. In conclusion he hoped that-all would enjoy the games and that the competition would be keen. Mr. F. Julian, in a few well chosen remarks, welcomed bowlers to the Pihama green. His club was always happy to have visitors on the green and on such an auspicious occasion as the Lambie Shield tourney, he hoped those taking part would find the greens in good order and the games enjoyable. At ILahotu, Mr. D. Williams expressed pleasure at seeing such a good crowd of bowlers present to take part in the tournament. He congratulated the club on the excellence of their green and wished all present the best of luck in the games to be played.

The holders of the shield since its inception hove been Glengarry and Lamhie (1930). Marcroft and Moron (1931) and McCroue and Sinclair (1932).
