KAWEORA CAMP
THE FIRST CHRISTENING GENERAL ITEMS. A unique event took place in the Kaweora camp mess room on Monday evening last. Somehow one does not hear of a christening being held very often in a ; single men’s camp. However, the lucky child was duly baptised in the presence of a host of honorary godfathers and if onetenth of them live up to their duties the child will be set for the rest of his.life. The Rev. Farnell officiated and little Kathleen Thompson was sponsored by Mrs. Muir and Mr. Len Isaacs (her uncle). As it is a platitude that a christening is followed by a wedding the men of the camp are now speculating on their luck. The child is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Thompson who live in the vicinity of the camp and who were only too glad to take advantage of the facilities offered by the camp overseer when the minister took the usual Monday evening service. The cricket team played Mauaia during the week-end. Mauaia winning after a good game. A euchre party was held at the camp on Wednesday night. A good attendance was present. The following were the prizewinners; Ladies, Miss W. Wan; gents, Mr. Daley. Mi's. Vincent has returned to Palmerston North after spending: a holiday with friends. :
