CROQUET CLUB
THE ANNUAL MEETING. PRESIDENT’S REPORT. The annual meeting of the Opunake Croquet Club was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday last. There was a good attendance of members, Mrs. Dalrymple presiding. President’s Report. Mrs. Dalrymple presented the following report:— The 1931-32 season opened up very well, but had a set-back through the illness of several members. However, the ones left had quite enjoyable games and visited and entertained neighbouring clubs several times. Mrs. Jenkin entered for the A singles in New Plymouth and was runner-up. She also got into the semi-final at the Hawera tournament. Mesdames Jenkin and Ritchie also entered for the doubles in Hawera and played very creditably. The new members made fair progress, had a good grounding and should this year improve. The fence round the lawn has been reinforced with concrete posts and should now last for years. Owing to the depression it was considered inadvisable to hold the fortnightly euchre parties, but the club has fortunately been able to meet all liabilities to date and has a credit balance of £1 3s 4d. There is much to be done now in the way of top-dressing, etc., and funds will need to be raised to meet expenses. Thanks of the club are due to the Press and Mr. Fisher for auditing accounts. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the forthcoming year are as follows: President, Mrs. E. Jenkin; vicepresidents, Mesdames Dalrymple and Watt; secretary, Mrs. R. Ritchie (subject to approval); committee, Mesdames Gunson, Feaver, Peat, Lambie, Baylis and Wallis; selection committee, Mesdames Dalrymple, Gunson and Ritchie; caretaker, Mr. J. Johnston; green warden, Mr, A. Fake. New members elected were Mesdames Norcross, Laing and Misses Feaver and Spring. Life Member. On the motion of Mrs. Jenkin seconded by Mrs. Dalrymple Mrs. A. O’Brien was elected a life member of the club. Mrs. O’Brien has been a member of the club since its inception and has always been a very active member. General. Arrangements were made to hold a crib and euchre party in St. Patrick’s Hall on September 9th, io raise funds. It was decided that the subscription be the same' as last year, to be paid in two instalments. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president (Mrs. Dalrymple) and the retiring secretary (Mrs. Mantey), also the Press. Mrs. Dalrymple thanked Mrs. R. E. Peat for her energetic work in connection with the lamp shade competition, which was won by No. 22 (Mrs. F. Rogers).
