NOTES. (By "Stymie.") Ideal weather conditions prevailed over the week-end and the various competitions were considerably advanced. • * « » What has been termed "the 'glorious uncertainty" of golf is strikingly exemplified in the results of several matches. Perhaps the most notable result is ' that of Cundy's defeat of Fraser, as the latter in a "try out" on the afternoon previous to the day of his match went round in the astonishing figures of 66, golf good enough to beat the best players in the land, and yet on the day following he took 12 or 13 • strokes more. Cundy has played t ! consistently this season and apparently caught Fraser "on the 'V hop" but a consistant player is always liable to bring off a surprise. • * « «■ -.-. Edmonds had little difficulty in disposing of Marcroft who was not at his best. • * * * t Edmonds and Cundy will now meet in the final and a good struggle should result. Recent form would indicate that the latter should win but form has been m so unreliable of late that it is risky to try and "pick" a winner. « * * « In the junior event D. Burton created a surprise by defeating L. Donnelly. Burton is showing improvement in his game bui Donnelly appears to have lapsed lately, and although he plays great golf at times, he is rather > erratic. »' * • « Father Kennedv defeated Dud- • ley easily and looks to have the junior championship at his mercy. He wilhmeet Burton in the final. • * • « Never before have the championships produced as many surprises. Last year both Cundy and Edmonds were easily eliminated in the senior event whilst Father Kenned- did not show up in the junior championship. However, none will begrudge these players the honour of reaching the finals. « * * • A point in connection with the numerous matches being played which is sometimes over-looked is that it is not in keeping with the etiquette of the game to keep an - opponent waiting by turning uo late for a match; in fact it is coils sidered to be bad sportsmanship and entirely foreign in amateur golf. • * •■.-,....« F. Hammond retained the record of long handicap players, by; defeating Feaver on the last Jj green in the final of the Waiaua $ Cup. The contest, although notproductive of very high class golf was an interesting one and Feaver found the "bogey" of conceding nine strokes to his opponent too great. Feaver was very weak round the greens . whilst this play yras Hammond's long suit. • * • m In the Spring Cup Fleming again failed in macth nlay and found the task of conceding Willis 4 strokes, too much. Fleming plays some excellent golf but simply cannot produce it in match play. Willis is improving. • » * * • The Waiaua Cup competition has been a most interesting one but this year's contest has taken an unnecessarilv long time to complete. It is played on handicaps declared practically at -the beginning of the season and taking the time it has, has resulted in some of the contestants playing well below the handicap allotted early in the season. LADIES' GOLF. VISIT TO MANAIA. On Wednesday next a team of ladies will visit Manaia to play a friendly match.
