A BRIGHTER OUTLOOK
BUTTER PRICES FIRMER. IMPROVEMENT SHOWN. Recent messages say butter prices now stand at 107 s to 108 s tor finest while cheese is: white 58s to 595, coloured 55s to This rise in prices really bears out the optimistic remarks of the manager of the N.Z. Co-op Dairy Co. (Mr Parlane) at a recent address, when he stated that world events gave promise of reasonable improvements in dairy produce prices. Since last month the prices have become firmer and if only they would remain at the present position, it woulu give farmers an opportunity i work on a reasonable payable basis.
Some agents accredit the improvement to the fact that the Danes will never allow a carryover of their stock and also that New Zealand butter is finding its way into the markets of Midlands, where at present the people are paying from 2d to 3d a pound above Danish prices. The Ottawa conference is taken as the cause of the dropping off in prices of Danish cheese with subsequent firmer price for the Colonial supply.
