THE ROUND TABLE.

The June number of the Round Table begins with an article cn “The Outlawry of War.” When the American proposal for an all-round treaty was first published there was a disposition to look upon it as too vague and unpractical for this everyday world. It seemed altogether too simple The Round Table article puts the offer in its true perspective, and it clearly has a very practical meaning. It considers it in fact, the most importantthing that has happened in the international sphere since America withdrew from the peace settlement in 1920. It must bo judged, not as an end but as a beginning. “Egypt, a Kingdom,” comes next. Till 1922 she has always been under some outside authority, and her condition before we appeared on the scene is described in the article. Since that year she has been governing herself. Her independence was recogn us, but recognition was subject to reservations, on which a settlemf? has still to be come to. The article that follows is on “The African Labour Problem,” and figures given on the second page show* its importance. All issues there merge in one, the native question, and it is with it that the article is concerned. “China” comes next. There is no subject with a greater topical interest and few things would lighten our inistrial troubles more than the return of peace to its -4(Xi,U00,000 inhabitants. The man in the street is, none the less sick of the very name. The word • “chaos” sums up the situation for him. The writer shows, however, that there is not only order in this chaos, but hope as well, and he helps the reader to understand the inner meaning of recent events. ce ™ ThiWßfrgfc yu varjjipt jlf *ctor« which es orapre side nti a 1 candidate —not forgetting the oil scandal —arc also described Next comes “India, the Commission’s Experiences.” In it we read how Sir John Simon and his colleagues got on in the different parts of India which they visited.
