REST ROOM

OFFICIAL OPENING The official opening of the Opunakc Rest Room took place yesterday, the ceremony being performed by the Hon O. J. Hawkcn, Minister of Agriculture, who was introduced by the town Clerk, Mr. A. O’Brien, who apologised for the absence though illness, of tho chairman of the Town Board (Mr. C. A. Trotter). The Minister spoke at length on the work of the Plunket Society, pointing out that the infantile mortality in New Zealand was the lowest in the world, and tho children the healthiest, de congratulated the branch on their rorward move and wished them success. Mr C. 0. Edmonds, a member of the Advisory Committee, also spoke, and congratulated the president and her committee on their achievement. His jommittee he said, had advised against the building of a permanent .oom in tho meantime, pending a trial in the present building. The premises, recently known as Burton’s Mart, have been comfortably fitted up with easy chairs, tables, etc, and will provide a long-felt want for women and children visiting Opunake

The promoters wish it t o be understood that the room is open to all women and children irrespective of whether they are supporters of the Plunket Society or not.

Heating apparatus for the room was generously donated by Mrs Norcross.
