BILL NOW REDRAFTED, LOCAL BODIES CONSIDERED, In accordance with a promise given in Parliament, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon R F Bollard ) lecenrly issued instructions that the preparation of the Motor Vehicles Bill be proceeded with. Following upon the conferences held with the automobile associations it is under* stood that the measure is now being redrafted. The Minister stated the other day that copies of the Bill would be !sent confidentially] to certain local authorities and autoI mobile associations for their persual and suggestions. The motoring bodies have come to an agreement in regard to the necessity tor license as compared with the tyre tax only as a means of revenue for the Main Highways Board. The Government is reported to be considering with the parties interested, the following proposals:Licenses, £2 per car, including one ton trucks with pneumatic tyres; lorries ), £3 ', lorric (solid tyres, ) £5; projections, 7ft 6ins over all ; speed, cars 25 and 10 miles, lorries i2i- and 5 miles; weight, 600 lb eacn inch width of ty e ; maximum load, 25,000 lb or ao ;ut ten tons.

It is understood that the allocation of moneys between the Islands wiil be fixed according to the number of motor vehicles in each. It is assumed that ihe number of vehicles in the North Is'and is 27,000, and in the South, 18,000. By-laws are now being prepared by the Main Highways Baorda for the guidance ot District Highway Councils.
