The Opunake Times. FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 1910. WEST COAST SETTLEMENT RESERVES.

Mb J. B. Jack, who succeeded Mr T. W. Fiaher as Reserves Agent at New Plymouth, has been transferred to the Native Department as ohairman of the Maori Council, and from the end of June his connection with the Native Reserves will cease. We congratulate him on his promotion, and feel sure that he will be as successful in his new sphere as he waß in tbe West Coast Settlement Reserves where, by his even minded administration, be secured and retained tbe confidence and respect of both Maoris and Europeans. He is to be succeeded by Mr 0. Zaohariab, who has for many years been in the head office as chief clerk, where he has bad most of the work of the reserves passing through his hands. He has had several trips round the district on business, and possesses the great advantage of knowing most of the Maoris, and also a large number of tbe lessees. We are sure tbe lessees will have reason to feel pleased at such a suitable appointment being made, and tbat tbe relations between both parties will run along smoothly under Mr Zaohariah's guidance.
