Ambulance for Opunake.

On Friday afternoon Messrs R, Lambie and J. Burgess (members of the Hawera and New Plymouth Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards; were met by Messrs J. Stewart, J. 0. Read, aud E. O’Meara (members of the Town Board) to discuss the question of an ambulance for Opunake. Mr Burgess said that the New Plymouth Board viewed the proposal favorably, but required particulars as to cost, &c. Mr O’Brien, clerk of the Town Board, said be had written for prices, but the only reply ho had received was from Bouse and Hurrell, of Wellington, who said there were so many kinds of ambulances that he could not quote without further particulars owing to his leading man being ill. Mr Burgess said the ambulance would have to be vested in either one Board. Mr Lambie said the Hawera Board would assist, as it would be for both ends of the district. Subsidy wou.ld only be paid on the amount collected. As regards the vesting of the waggon, he did not see that it made any difference, as both ends will require it. Mr Read pointed out that the New Plymouth Road boundary commences at the Arawhata road. He understood that the Opunake people were to ascertain the cost and description of waggon and submit it to both Boards.

Mr Burgess said that was practically wbat was required. Mr Stewart thought the two Boards; could arrange as to whom the waggon would be vested in. Mr O’Meara said hpj understood Dr Morrison had rooms to accommodate cases of sickness, anci the ambulance could also be used for bringing patients in to him. Mr Lambie understood that the agreement would -stipulate that the waggon would be stationed in Opunake for the benefit of patients at both ends.

Mr O’Meara saicl that as Mr W. 0. Dudley was away in Wellington he was ascertaining particulars in connection with the cost, &c., fwnd if possible, would lie supplied to each Board before next meeting.
