Opunake Town Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting was held last night. Present : Messrl J. Stewart, 0. A. Trotter, J.O. Read and E. O'Meara. CHAIRMAN. In the absence- of the chairman Mr O'Meara was duly proposed aud elected chairman for the meeting. CLAIM. D.O.A. in Peat's estate and in reply to the Board's inquiry in reference to claim for rent being preferential. The D.O.A. had consulted his solicitor and he advised the Board to withdraw proof of debt so that the assignee could resume tenancy and pay claim. In reference to telling Mr Dudley that rent was a preferential claim, he meant so in such cases as complying with the Act. The proof of debt (as advised) was withdrawn by the Chairman and his action was confirmed on the motion of Messrs O'Meara and Read. AMBULANCE. . A letter was read from Mr Burgess stating he had brought the matter of procuring an ambulance before the New Plymouth Hospital and C.A. Board and that they were prepared to favorably consider it when details were forwarded. He thought there might be a difficulty in getting the Government subsidy on account of joint ownership, but he thought there was a way out of the difficulty and he would consult with Mr L*mbie. It was agreed that the members of the Board do wait on Messrs Burgess and Lambie, delegates to the New Plymouth and Hawera Hospital, and Charitable Aid Boards re ambulance to-day. (.'• COMPLAINT. Mr A. H. Moore wrote regretting that he had to bring under Board's notice a complaint against the poundkeeper. Mr Moore had found a \ heifer belonging to him in the pound paddook on 4th inst. at about 6.80 p.m.; he milked her there that day. On his way back he called at the poundkeeper's residence but he was not there. About 11 o'clook next morning he saw the poundkeeper who stated that he impounded it that morning (sth inst.) at 5.45a.m. from the Namu road. According to the poundkeeper's theory some one put the heifer in the pound and some one let it out again. He complained that the poundkeeper was allowing the pound, to be tampered with, and that his language was uncivil. The poundkeeper is to be asked to attend the special meeting on Tuesday night and explain matters. STRIKE A BATE. The Chairman gave notice of motion to strike a rate of three farthings in the £ over the rateable area in the Opunake town district. TRANSFER. Mr McDavitt wrote that Mr Harrison was prepared to transfer his interest in Board's section to W. Harrison, pay half rents and taxes up to date of bankruptcy and full rates after that date. The transfer was agreed to on the motion of Messrs Read and Trotter. BLINDING. Mr O'Meara moved That blinding be put on the new metalled roads. Seconded by Mr Stewart and oarried. FINANCE. The monthly statement showed the Board had £2OB 6s 7d in the bank, from this amount £62 10s will be deducted for payßheet and ordinary accounts passed last night. The assets were stated at £4o, ; but read good, bad and.indifferent. CHEQUES. In the absence o' the Chairman Mr O'Meara was empowered to sign cheques. SAFE. The clerk asked that he be allowed to remove the Board's safe to his own office for convenience sake. Agreed to on the motion of Messrs Stewart and Read. DOMAIN BOARD. Same members and chairman. Communication from Caledonian Society forwarding resolution of assurance of further financial assistance in connection with grandstand building.—Received. TENDERS, Tenders for the grandstand were not opened. The opening oeremony being left for a full Board and a special night (Tuesday). Only two tenders were received. t FINANCE.
