The second round reversed, and commences on July sth. Pihama defeated Ake-Ake by 11 points to 6. The game was played at Pihama. For the winners, Lockley scored two tries and Patterson one. One try was converted. Mr J. Young was referee. At Te Kiri, Opunake was defeated by 9 points to three. W. Tynao, Monldey and Tynan scored for the home team and Tyler for the visitors. Mr S. Forsvth refereed. Complaint has been made that players in opposing teams wear similar colored jerseys. This is a duty that devolves on the referees to see that the rule is carried out. Patea has made request to have the Opunake-Patea match commenced at 2 p.m. in Hawera. There was a very fair crowd of spectators at the match at Te Kiri. In the representative matches in the Old Country, Wales has emerged victorious, defeating England by two goals to nil, Scotland by two tries to one try, Ireland two goals to one try. The backs that came out in the British team last year were very prominent in the winning team. In faot, with one exception, all the scoring was done by Morgan, Gabe, Llewellyn. Bush, who sprained his shoulder at the commencement of the season was unable to play lor Wales. Harding, a forward who played in N.Z., also donned the Welsh jersey. Rumor has it that fisticufffi poked into a position in one of the games on Wednesday. This will be determinedly, or should be, put a stop to by the controlling association, Football is an element that will ripen the mannerism of jouths into a ruddy complexion if the trimming out process is taken early in band by the controllers. It is a good game to assist a youth in future life as he comes in contact with other youths of every description of temperament and disposition, and whilst striving for supremacy in the football field, it has to be done in a manly spirit, with coolness and activity, and the training thus received will not only develop their muscles and lungs but also brings out manliness. The spectator that shouts out all sorts of peouliar and frequently foolish advice what to do, is the person who never played the game. Keep the ball of the street. There is nothing so unsightly to older players than to see—not small boys—but youths kicking the ball about the street corners. I know most of us did the Bame thing, but that is not a good motto to follow. There are any amount of vacant sections to kick the leather to their heart's content. To play the game the swelling must come off the head and go on to the chest. It is the «' swelled heads " that play the game in the street.

The game between the Opuoake and Patea seniors, to be played at Hawera, on Saturday, should be one of the best contested games of the season, providing the teams play up to their usual strength. The two teams appear the most evenly matched in the contest. Strange that both Patea and Opunake scored a penalty goal against Hawera, and the latter club in both games scored nine points against Patea. Any difference between the two teams' scores against Hawera is aceounted for by Blyth's goal-kicking. Great is the rejoicing thereat 1 Te Kiri club has won their first game. Keep a-moverin' 1
