MEDICAL PRACTITIONER FOR OPUNAKE.

‘ (To THE EDITOR.) Sm,-—May I point out to you tlle necessity of having a. resident medical practitioner at Opunake, as no doubt you are aware there has been, and still is, a lot of illness in the district, and I think that if you would’ take the matter in hand, through your columns, the desired end might be obtained. Some time ago our worthy neighbour. Mr T. Strachon, made 0 move in that direction. His programme was for the settlers to give an annual subscription to a fund for the doctor, and that that, added to what fees he may get, would warrant a practical gentlemen residing in Opunake. On several occasions medical gentlemen from New Plymouth and Manaia have come to attend patients, which is very expensive. We also know that people are rather loth to fetch a doctor from distant parts, owing to the cost, and it is delayed until it is considered the patients are so ill that there is no other alternative but to send for him. The result is that it is too late, whereas if a doctor was at hand his services would be-called in before the symptoms were very bad.——l am, 650., G. W. GANE. Oaonui, Sept. 7th, 1894.
