Te Teko Plantation. The re-planting: the Whakatane County Council’s plantation area at Te Teko is nearly completed. The last of the 96,000 trees required are being put. The original planting was. used up by the Whakatane Paper Mills.
Easter Next Year. Easter next year will be earlier than for a number of years, Good Friday falling on March 30, which will be the earliest date since 1940. Under normal seasonal conditions there should be a prospect of a warmer Easter than when the festival occurs in April. Home and School Dance. Another Home and School Association dance is to- be held on Monday evening. An it is the last to be held this year it is hoped' that; it will be given good support. School-children are selling tickets and as the proceeds are to be used for the purpose of installing a. film projector the committee can anticipate that they will receive a ready response either by ‘ buying tickets or by* giving a donation. These dances have proved exceptionally popular, the organisation leaving nothing to be desired and calling forth praise from all sides. Hall Lost to Public. Some time ago the Gisborne main dancing hall was lost to the use of the public, when it was acquired for other purposes. This hall was of good capacity and the only other halls available liavp a. much smaller main door. It is now proposed to convert another hall into a furniture factory. The hall is to be used by a serviceman as a factory, no other suitable building being available. The Gisborne Borough Council has given permission for the hall to be used as a furniture factory for live years and thereafter at the pleasure of the council. The Gisborne R.S.A. propose to build a new hall after the war and the campaign to raise funds is well under way and is receiving strong public support.
