VALEDICTORY
MISS DOREEN ABBOT Miss Doreen Abbot was recently the . guest of honour at a very enjoyable evening arranged in her honour byi her many friends, prior to leaving for Rotorua, where she will take up nursing. The entertainment took place in the Waioeka Hall. Mr. Bruce Gaskill and Mr. W. Burnett acted in the capacity of masters of ceremony.
Ijtonte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr. Allan Abbot and Miss Stevens, and Miss Bette Morris and Mr. John Medallion, A delicious supper was served under the capable supervision o-f Mrs. Bennett.
Mrs. M'acrae, in a few well-chosen words, wished Miss. Abbot all success in her new work, remarking that Miss Abbot carried with her the good wishes of all present. Mrs. Bennett, on behalf of .the young people, presented Miss Abbot with a gift.
Posies were presented to Miss Abbot and Mrs. Abbot by Miss Rosemary Bennett and Miss Helen Kerr, respectively. At the close of the evening Mrs. Macrae, on behalf of 1 the Waioeka Knitting Circle and the Comforts Committee; spoke in appreciative terms of the work done behind the scenes by Mr. W. Burnett. At all times Mr. Burnett had proved himself a capable assistant in the kitchen, and all' could testify to his ability who had tasted his delicious coffee and t'ea. All joined in singing ‘For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,’ and a .round of applause followed. Mr. Burnett suitably responded.
Miss Abbot will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and she will 1 be specially missed by the Knitting Circle, of which she was an active member. Miss Abbot is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyall Abbot-, Waioeka Road.
