Nicholson, Otoko, paid a short week-end visit to Mrs. A. J; Macrae, Oponae. WAIMANA GOLF CLUB DANCE AID OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS .(News Correspondent.) The Patriotic Dance hern under the auspices of the Waimana Golf Club, in the Waimana Hall recently, was quite a success. The music was played by Meiklejohn and his Havana Boys; Mr. M. Burke obliging with an extra. Mr. M. King made a most efficient M.C. The Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr. J. Wardlawand Mrs. M. King and Mr. T. Savage and partner. A box of chocolates . for competition was won by Mr. J". Cranswick. After a dainty supper had been served, the president of the G.C., Mrs. Jerram, presented the cups and trophies won during the past season. The following is the list of awards : Ladies’ A. WAIMANA YOUNG FARMERS CLUB DEBATE AND DANCE (News Correspondent.) The Waimana Young farmers’ Club celebrated their fourth birthday recently in the Waimana Hail, when a debate and dance, was held. Tne evening being an open one, proved most successful and was enjoyed by all. The debate was held between members of the Women’s Institute and the Y.F.C., the subject being: “More Women Should Enter Parliament”. It proved a most iuteicsting subject with a vein of humour running throughout. The W.I. took the affirmative and the Y.l* .C. the negative. Mr. Briant White introduced the teams and the. judge was ' Mr. N. Macdonald. Mr. D. Woolfield acted as timekeeper. The speakers were:—Mrs. A. K. Bell (leader), Mrs. F. Savage and Mrs C. Wyldc for the W. 1., and Mr. R. Woolfield (leader), Mr. Lionel Macdonald and Mr. Kara White for the Y.F.C. The latter won by 10 tents, the figures being: Y.F.C. 264, W.I. 254. The judge congratulated the W.I. team on their splendid effort, it being their first attempt at debating. Supper was served and a birthday cake, made and iced by Mrs. Woolfield, took pride of place. Dancing was then enjoyed by all present, Mrs. King playing the dance music, Mr. M. Burke obliging with an extra. . ' Mr. Max Wardlaw capably acted as M.C. , , , Mr. M. FAREWELL DANCE (News Correspondents-) - A farewell dance to Private Syd. Green, who was on leave, was held in the jWaimana Hall last Wednesday- evening. Although the residents only had a fews hours’ notice of the dance, there was a good assembly of dancers. The dance music w r as contributed by Mrs. King, Mr. King, Mr. D. Boynton and Miss* M. Wardlaw and Mr. A. Wardlaw, obliged with extras. The Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. M. King. Mr. H. Wardlaw acted by M.C.

After supper, Mr. A. Ruff, in a little speech, presented the guest of honour with a cheque and best wishes from all present. Private Green suitably replied, thanking all for the gift and'the very pleasant evening.

Dancing continued until a late hour.

Monica Boynton sang two very sweet songs.

The National Anthem brought a bright little evening to a close.

TENNIS DANCE There was a good attendance at the dance held in the Lyric Hall on Saturday night to mark the opening of the tennis season. The music was supplied by It. Parkes’ orchestra with/ extra's by Mr. It. ■ Parkes and Mr. T. O’Sullivan. Monte Carlos were won by Miss, P. Potts and Mr. E. Thompson anil Miss P. Reid and Mr. N.
